After a pleasant vaporetto ride, we will get off at a point near St. Mark's Square, the historical center of the city, and start our tour among the canals. In this place, where all the vehicles we are accustomed to in daily life, such as police, ambulances, garbage trucks, and municipal buses, have been replaced by boats, we will walk from the Slave Beach to St. Mark's Square, passing the Venice prison and the "Ponte dei Sospiri" (Bridge of Sighs) connecting the prison and the Doge's Palace. Right across from the bridge is St. George Island, and in the square in front of the main facade of the Doge's Palace, we will see the twin columns that are referred to as the entrance gate of the city and the statues of Venice on top of these columns. The square where St. Mark's Cathedral is located was called "the most beautiful square in the world" by Napoleon. Although the construction of the cathedral was completed in the 9th century, it reached its current state in the 17th century. You can enjoy watching the statues at the top of the clock tower as they strike the bell at the beginning of every hour during your free time, or climb the bell tower to see the entire view of Venice from above.
